“Landversation Beirut”, Otobong Nkanga exhibition at Beirut Art Center
10.02.2016 - 10.04.2016
As a long-standing partner of Beirut Art Center, Libano-Suisse had the pleasure to shed light on the recent exhibition titled "Landversation Beirut" by Nigerian-born and Belgium-based visual artist and performer Otobong Nkanga. The exhibition, which ran from February 10 to April 10, featured a mix of photographs and two installations created especially by Otobong Nkanga on-site at the Beirut Art Center. The artist’s prime interest is in exploring the notion of land and our relation to it as human beings and as people living in Beirut. The installation titled "Landversation Beirut" consisted of three sculptural-looking tables with ordinary people, such as farmers, activists, lawyers among others, seated behind them, telling visitors about their life, stories and professions. The installation was designed to encourage spectators to also engage and share their own stories about their relations, affiliations and conceptions of land.
